Lawrence Hochheiser

Biography:

Mr. Hochheiser is the Senior Partner of Hochheiser Hochheiser & Inwood LLP. He graduated from NYU Law School in 1966, where he was a member of the Law Review www.nyu.edu/law.nyu.

Mr. Hochheiser served as Assistant District Attorney in New York County from 1967 to 1971, specializing in the investigation and prosecution of organized crime cases in the office's famed Rackets Bureau www.manhattanda.org.

Mr. Hochheiser is: former President of the New York Criminal Bar Association www.nycrimbar.org, former co-chair of the American Bar Association's Defense Function Committee, a life member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers www.nacdl.org, and a member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers www.nysacdl.org.

He is a frequent lecturer on criminal law subjects and has lectured for many organizations including: the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the Nassau County Criminal Courts Association; the Westchester County Bar Association; Yeshiva University's Cardozo School of Law www.cardozo.yu.edu/; the John Jay School of Criminal Justice; and the New York State Attorney General's Organized Crime Task Force www.oag.state.ny.us.

For many years, Mr. Hochheiser has been a regular guest lecturer speaking on the practice of criminal law from a defense perspective at the Organized Crime courses taught at NYU, Cornell www.lawschool.cornell.edu and Columbia law schools www.law.columbia.edu

On Monday June 14, 2007 Lawrence Hochheiser received the Hogan Award for Legal Excellence from Frank S. Hogan Associates – an association of former assistant district attorneys who served under the legendary Manhattan DA.

Over his long and distinguished career as a prosecutor and as a leading criminal defense attorney in New York City, Mr. Hochheiser has tried hundreds of criminal cases, many of them high-profile and, as often as not, infamous murders with virtually household names, including the CBS Murder Trial, the Opera House Murder Case, the Westies cases, the Russian Ax Murder Case, the murder of organized crime Detective Anthony Vinditte and many others. Mr. Hochheiser is equally well-known for his work on white-collar matters, as he is often retained to represent doctors, attorneys, accountants and other professionals accused of economic crimes. Recently, he served as lead trial counsel in the "Evergreen" case involving charges of a $30 million financial conspiracy and the "Golden Venture" alien smuggling case involving charges of international money laundering.

Mr. Hochheiser also is an experienced personal injury litigator with an emphasis on trial of the firm's most serious accident cases.

Mr. Hochheiser is admitted to practice in the courts of New York State, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He has been admitted pro hac vice in United States District Courts of New Jersey, Illinois, Florida and Texas.
